Phillipians 2:5 will forever go down in the history books for me. My attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus. It was the theme to camp the first year we went to studentlife at the beach in Daytona. Due to the grace of a couple sweet young ladies, this verse is also on a wall in my office.
Do you ever wish you could just spend some time around Jesus to see what His attitude was like? I do. I judge someone's attitude so much by what is verbalized, but also so much more. I judge by their facial expressions, their body language, their breathing...even the speed they talk.
We judge in so many ways besides the verbal or what is actually said. Jesus said a lot and we have it all at our disposal. But wouldn't it be nice to be able to see his eyes...his facial expressions? The picture this week is of a mirror neuron in the brain. These things are so cool. The cells of a mirror neuron fire off when we want to complete an action. For instance, as I type this, there are mirror neurons firing off as I type each letter.
Here is the really cool part to me. Not only do they fire off when I do something, but also when I watch someone else. That means that the part of my brain that dictates action is also watching others and firing off as if I am going to do it to!
I know what your thinking...SO STINKIN WHAT? Here's what. That means that whenever we do something that someone else sees, they have mirror neurons in there brain going off that will help them imitate it if they so choose. Wow. May I imitate Jesus because biologically anyone who is watching me is also impulsively possibly going to imitate me.
Isn't that wild? Our brains are programmed to imitate. Well, Phil. 2:5 to ya.
